Lucky four leafed clover

March 9th, 2012

a little luck

Fancy something subtle for St Patrick’s Day?  I know, I know,  ’subtle’ and Paddy’s Day don’t normally go together, but this lucky four leafed clover DIY paper craft is a dainty way to introduce some quirky green accents to your day.

origami, spring wedding, horetown house, luxury

This origami backdrop is an incredible paper creation which adds a contemporary twist without a contemporary price tag.  The beauty of origami inventions is that once you get the knack the only thing holding you back from paper domination is time, but if you have a big pot of tea and a few helpers, you can really get creative with a production line in your kitchen.  Check out this tutorial from Martha Stewart and get ready to paper some serious style into your celebrations.

Don’t Tell the Bride

March 6th, 2012

Horetown House will feature in this weeks episode of Don’t Tell the Bride, on Rte 2 Thursday at 9.30.  We are so excited to see how Mandy and Phil got on with all the plans for their big day. Mandy, her bridesmaid and friend arrived to Horetown in January to view the house as the Brides’ “Dream Venue” so while we knew we probably wouldn’t be chosen by Phil, we were thrilled to be chosen by the Bride.  We had great fun trying to ‘be natural’ with a camera man and director pottering around the house, and it was very exciting to see the program from the other side.  To be honest I would always have presumed the program is a bit of a set up, but talking to Mandy and her friends, they really Don’t Tell the Bride and she was still waiting to find out what day she was getting married, let alone what she would be wearing, eating or dancing to.  A brave woman to let her partner plan the big day, we can’t wait to see the show!

don't tell the bride, wedding, wexford

Here’s a little background:

Phil & Mandy met when they were both in the reserve defence forces at a camp in Gormanstown Mandy was demoted to tea & sandwich duty. Whilst pouring tea for Phil the sugar bag burst spilling sugar all over the place! Phil came to rescue as the Knight in shining armour and 14 years later they’re still together!

They’re 32 now and have two children: James, 12 and Sophie, 7. Phil & Mandy’s wedding always got pushed to the side over the years due to buying their house and other pressures. They purchased their first house together at the tender age of 20. Soon after Mandy found out she was pregnant again and so they had to buy a bigger house to accommodate the growing family. They are both originally from Dublin, they traded in the city lifestyle for country living in Bunclody, Co Wexford

A New Wedding Year At Horetown House

January 26th, 2011

As we are starting a new wedding year at Horetown House, I’ve decided to start an “Agony Aunt” blog for your brides and grooms to be.  From helping couples over the past 2/3 years to plan and organise their weddings, I think that you all could do with some help from time to time from an expert in the field, that’s me by the way.  So, my plan is to update my blog weekly to post various problems that I have helped to solve whilst planning and organising this year’s weddings at Horetown House.  As we are an exclusive wedding venue in the heart of Wexford countryside, some couples are a little nervous about the ligistics of getting their guests to the venue, getting their guests to the church, having the flowers delivered, getting their make up and hair done, this is mostly the brides, and lots of other stuff that can terrify couples as obviously, most of them haven’t done anything like this before.  So, I will be back next week with the start of the problem solving.  If anyone wants to email me you will get me on info@Horetownhouse.ie and the website of course you will have already found, www.Horetownhouse.ie Chat next week, Kate

Your budget is the most important element in your planning, setting the stage for every other decision you make. So it pays to set a firm number right away — and to stick to it, even when that entails making difficult decisions.
Who’s going to pay? How much can you comfortably afford? What are you going to shell out the big bucks for? How are you going to spend wisely?
Breaking Down the Budget
Whether you’re throwing a celebration that’s bare-bones or blowout, here’s how; I suggest dividing  up your budget. Just remember to include VAT and Service Charges in your calculations.
Reception (Venue, Food, Beverages, Rentals)
40 percent to 50 percent
Flowers
10 percent
Photography/Videography
10 percent
Bride’s and groom’s attire
5 percent to 10 percent
Music
5 percent to 10 percent
Planner or Coordinator- if you choose Horetown House of course, you will have your planner- coordinator on site included in your wedding package so this can be your contingency fund.
10 percent to 15 percent

Wedding Trends for this wedding season.

All Brides to be want to know about the latest trends, even if they don’t actaully want to use them for their own wedding.

This year is going to be a big year for vintage weddings.  Don’t worry, the cupcakes are still with us but now on vintage style cake stands with delicate lace effect cupcake cases.  The garden party is a really attractive way to spend the day after the wedding, when the happy couple can chill out, have a few drinks with family and friends and discuss the day before, no doubt hearing about things that they were totally unaware of.

Bunting, your granny’s tea sets, mismatched table arrangements, these are all the ways to introduce vintage into your wedding.  Marquee weddings are also going to be big this year and with the modern technology now available, the weather is not really a major concern anymore.  Heating is very effective and even if the weather is not great, between March and October, the climate here is never as fierce as it is between November and February, so fingers crossed for a great Summer this year and vintage tents, garden parties and BBQ;s galore.

March 23rd, 2010

I know how difficult it can be to keep numbers under control when drawing up your invitation list.  You don’t want to insult anyone by leaving them out but you really don’t have the budget to invite them to the main wedding meal and all the trimmings.  The solution is have 2 seperate meals, one for immediate family and close friends and then another one for a larger number, but the larger one will cost less and you won’t have to provide wine, champagne toast etc.etc.etc…….

How To Include Everybody In Your Invitation List Without Breaking The Bank.

At Horetown House you can now have an intimate family and close friends wedding followed by a larger event to which you can invite your extended family and lots of friends.

Host a full 5 course dinner for bridal party, parents, witnesses and immediate family members in our luxurious dining room on the ground floor of the House (up to 30), to include Champagne & Canape Reception, Champagne Toast during Meal, half bottle of wine per guest with meal, followed by a Buffet or BBQ later in the evening or the following day.

Buffet/BBQ  100 guests.
