We had our second marquee wedding of the season last week and it was a really fantastic day, the sun came out and the bride and groom were fabulous. Kevin, the photographer who captured their day has posted an amazing slide show on his website, so if you are interested in having a wedding in Horetown House, or if you already have a venue and are looking for a photographer its definitely one not to be missed.
Sophie and Stephen had their civil ceremony in Johnstown Castle, the magnificent castle our own Lady Fitzgerald came from before marrying Major Lackin and becoming the Lady of Horetown House. So enjoy the slide show, and thanks so much Kevin for sharing it, you were a pleasure to have in the house, we hardly even noticed you were there, but yet you captured every detail!

mini killner jars are perfect for slotting in spoons
Glass jars of all shapes and sizes have been popping up in blogs and websites for quite a while now, for food, sweets, favours and just about anything you can think of. Killner and Masons are the brands to get as they have extra detail, both embossing their names in the glass. But as is always the case with the best brands, they don’t come cheap. Until now! Heatons have started stocking Killner jars in the traditional round and a square shape and not at the usual eye watering price. Prices for the mini jars, (ideal for single portions of dessert or yogurt) start at €2.50 and the large jars (great for sweets and cookies for a share table) are €4-€6 Check out some of these great ideas for inspiration but remember, you don’t have to spend big, any glass jar looks cute with a ribbon tied round it so plan ahead. Start saving or better yet, put out a call to friends and family to start collecting and you could really make an impact with just a few bags of tea lights and 5 or 6 meters of ribbon.
personalise with hand tied labels to match your stationary
And here’s a great recycled jam jar alternative from realisticweddings
dishwashers have a setting for sterilising jars, taking the slog out of recycling

With this weekend being Easter and with more and more people enquiring “do you do Sunday lunch”, we have decided to start this weekend!
Sudath has come up with a great spring menu with favourites like Wexford Lamb Shank and old fashioned crumble with ice cream for all the traditionalists out there (you know who you are - Dad!!!)
So pop into the 1692 Bar in the cellar between 12.30 and 3pm if you fancy a homemade Sunday dinner without the washing up, and at €24.95 for 3 courses or a la carte, you can’t go far wrong, no reservations taken.
But don’t worry, if you’re a late riser and you plan to gorge on chocolate til at least 3pm, our bar menu starts at 5 o’clock so call down to the 1692 Bar this Sunday or any Sunday over the coming months and we will take good care of you.
Happy Easter,
Niamh

There is something very uplifting about a chirpy shade of sunny yellow, but when it’s coupled with a soft dove grey it becomes a grown up hue with style and a strong personality… check out some of these stunning examples popping up on blogs around the world.

These fresh simple flowers make a statement without being garish in a simple white glass vase.

Check out the polka dot ring cushion, so cute.

We have just announced the date of our Spring Wedding Fair, so if you are engaged to be married and on the hunt for you perfect venue, or if you have a sneaky feeling you might need a venue in the not too distant future (we won’t tell anyone) come down to visit us and see if you like what we do.
At the moment we are busy getting our marquee back into shape after its Winter hibernation, which is no small task! So far the exterior is up, the linings are freshly laundered and draped and we are just laying our natural coir flooring. Next week its putting up tables and polishing silverware, and then finally we get to do the fun things like bunting and centre pieces but for now its boring things like laying the floors and repainting the bar.

Fancy something subtle for St Patrick’s Day? I know, I know, ’subtle’ and Paddy’s Day don’t normally go together, but this lucky four leafed clover DIY paper craft is a dainty way to introduce some quirky green accents to your day.

This origami backdrop is an incredible paper creation which adds a contemporary twist without a contemporary price tag. The beauty of origami inventions is that once you get the knack the only thing holding you back from paper domination is time, but if you have a big pot of tea and a few helpers, you can really get creative with a production line in your kitchen. Check out this tutorial from Martha Stewart and get ready to paper some serious style into your celebrations.

Horetown House will feature in this weeks episode of Don’t Tell the Bride, on Rte 2 Thursday at 9.30. We are so excited to see how Mandy and Phil got on with all the plans for their big day. Mandy, her bridesmaid and friend arrived to Horetown in January to view the house as the Brides’ “Dream Venue” so while we knew we probably wouldn’t be chosen by Phil, we were thrilled to be chosen by the Bride. We had great fun trying to ‘be natural’ with a camera man and director pottering around the house, and it was very exciting to see the program from the other side. To be honest I would always have presumed the program is a bit of a set up, but talking to Mandy and her friends, they really Don’t Tell the Bride and she was still waiting to find out what day she was getting married, let alone what she would be wearing, eating or dancing to. A brave woman to let her partner plan the big day, we can’t wait to see the show!

Here’s a little background:
Phil & Mandy met when they were both in the reserve defence forces at a camp in Gormanstown Mandy was demoted to tea & sandwich duty. Whilst pouring tea for Phil the sugar bag burst spilling sugar all over the place! Phil came to rescue as the Knight in shining armour and 14 years later they’re still together!
They’re 32 now and have two children: James, 12 and Sophie, 7. Phil & Mandy’s wedding always got pushed to the side over the years due to buying their house and other pressures. They purchased their first house together at the tender age of 20. Soon after Mandy found out she was pregnant again and so they had to buy a bigger house to accommodate the growing family. They are both originally from Dublin, they traded in the city lifestyle for country living in Bunclody, Co Wexford
